Joyride

Presented by the Brockville Concert Association

Colin Maier (oboe, saw, vocals, from Quartetto Gelato) & Mark Camilleri (pianist and music director for The Tenors) are “Joyride”, a fun show of jazz, funk, ragtime, Celtic, klezmer and more.  Colin and Mark’s mastery and versatility in a smorgasbord of styles has Colin switching from oboe, to pennywhistle, to voice, and even the saw in a high-energy romp that shows off their taste for fun. From Minnie the Moocher (with audience participation), to “Air on a Blue String” (a nod to JS Bach), to Chick Corea’s “Spain” and Piazzolla’s heartrending “Tanti Anni Prima”, they pepper their show with hilarious anecdotes and have a blast playing “Stump the Chump” (Mark creates a new song on the spot from random notes provided by members of the audience). 

JoyRide has performed across Ontario and in the US. Their CD “JoyRide” has been broadcast around the world: “Ridiculous, virtuosic, outside-the-box fun … It takes a lot of nerve to make music as amusing as JoyRide’s” (New York Music Daily).

Will Chalmers is a multi-award-winning tribute artist and has worked in the music industry for over 30 years. He has performed his Neil Diamond tribute since 2002 and has also paid tribute to Garth Brooks, Conway Twitty, John Lennon and Elvis. When Matt Andersen steps on stage, he brings a lifetime of music to every note he plays. His latest album, The Hammer & The Rose, is a veritable garden of heart; a (mostly) delicate collection of tender folk and stirring soul numbers that find the New Brunswick-born songwriter thoughtfully tending to the most important things in life. Andersen’s stage presence is informed by decades of cutting his teeth in dusty clubs, dim-lit bars, and grand theatres all over the world, delivering moving performances that run the gamut from intimate to wallshaking.

The daughter of internationally celebrated artists Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy, Mary Frances was raised on stages around the world and immersed in traditional music from an early age. By age twenty, she has already performed over 800 shows across Canada and internationally, developing a commanding stage presence and a deep musical maturity well beyond her years.

While rooted in Celtic tradition, Mary Frances has branched out on her own expanding her sound and artistic identity.
